Imagine...

Imagine... One day you're going to wake up and see a notification on your phone or the announcement all over the news and every channel that your favorite band has decided to separate. They got tired of performing and decided to do their own thing and you can't help but feel empty. They're your role models. You look up to them. They are your life. You've always dreamed of marrying them and their posters are all over your room. Your whole life has been dedicated to them and now all of a sudden. Poof! That all disappeared. You never thought this day would come but it did. Now you have to pack all of your posters and items into a box. Then years from now, when you have children, that box will be opened again and you will tell your children all about that band that you fangirled over since the beginning they formed. Then you'll go into the kitchen while your children are looking through the box and wonder what has happened to your idols. And maybe, just maybe they'll get back together for a live performance but that's all. They have a husband/wife and kids and you have your husband/wife and kids. They're only a memory but they are forever in your heart. You watched them grow up and you'll probably be alive when you hear on the news that one of them has passed away. You'll be just as heart broken as their families. Why? Because even though they didn't know you, you loved them and they loved you.

Cherish your favorite bands because one day that will be just a memory and you're going to wish that you had time to cherish each moment. I know how it feels to wake up and see that your band is gone. It's like a piece of your heart has been taken away. It feels like that concert you went to is now a fading memory. Enjoy everything that the band you love has done for you. Don't hate on them because they found someone they love. Don't hate them because of a stupid act they did. And don't hate them when they say that their time with the band is over and they want a normal life. Love them and thank them for everything they did for you. They saved our lives. They made us happy. They made us cry. They made us laugh. And they made us feel beautiful.

I can't imagine One Direction or 5 Seconds of Summer ever breaking up. I will probably cry if that ever happened but I would respect their decision.

Love your band. They've saved your life and filled it with happiness. Be grateful.

You're Unique

         In sixth grade, I was a confident clarinet player. I was always first chair and I would go home after school and practice playing for hours. At the end of the school year, we had band auditions and I was placed in the highest band in middle school, Honors Band. I was with a clarinet section that had four 7th graders (including me) and three 8th graders. The 8th graders where 1st-3rd chair and I was 4th, which is an amazing thing. The only problem was that they were amazing players. "I can never play like them. I can't even read music," I thought to myself everyday. Then 8th grade year came for me. I moved up to 1st chair but one of the girls in the same grade as I started taking lessons. Now her and I were changing chairs every week. I would be first one week and then the next second and then back to first.This was bringing my confidence down. I always believed it was because of my old lessons teacher who would bring me down but I realized that it was because I was afraid of others judging my sound. This went on until sophomore year.


Sophomore year I got a new private lessons teacher. He was amazing. When I first played for him so he could see what he was dealing with, he was in awe. "You have one of the best sounds I have ever heard," He told me. I was in shock. He thought I was good? I was in the second band because I never put any effort into band. I was always put down by others telling me that my sound was too soft and when I would play loud, they would laugh and tell me that my sound didn't even get louder. I started to get a little more confident with this lessons teacher.

Junior year, now. I have been trying to work hard to make Region Band this year. My lessons teacher has been pushing me because he knows that with my sound, I have a big chance of making it this year. Today was the day I gained my confidence back from sixth grade. November 10, 2014. I was in the Orchestra room with the other Wind Ensemble clarinets (I'm in the top band now) and we were practicing Region music. They made two clarinets at a time play to see who got the measure we were practicing. We finished and continued to play as a group but the first chair clarinet wanted another girl and I to play because he thought we were the ones messing up. She's last chair and I'm second to last so of course they would assume it was us. We nodded and played. She messed up the first two notes and stopped playing immediately. I didn't mess up so I continued to play. Once I stopped, everyone was in awe. I sat there, wondering why they were looking at me. "That was beautiful!" Two clarinet players said. "I could hear it too!" Another one said. I was in shocked that they said that. I've never been complimented by them before.

The rest of the time that we played, I felt confidence come out of me. I felt proud and I wanted to just go home and practice some more. I wanted to go to lessons and tell my lessons teacher what happened. I felt proud of myself for the first time in years. It made me realize why I loved playing my clarinet when I was younger. Just that one moment brought my love for band back and I know for sure that with that moment, my playing is going to improve because my mind is telling me that I can achieve what I want to achieve.

So once a month, my old church Lakewood, sends me newsletters and on the front of them is a positive message. I thought that I could share it for others to read.


Finish Strong

Many people in life give up just before their breakthrough. They are on their last lap, so to speak, so close to the finish line, but give up not realizing they are just moments away from victory.

There is an anointing God has for you. A finishing faith for you to tap into that you cannot see. Just like the invisible air you breathe and electricity you use, you have an unseen power working on your behalf that will enable you to complete what God has placed in your heart.

Most of us feel fire and passion when we start off on a new endeavor. But what really hangs people up in life is the day after day waiting in the in-between stages. I've heard it said that it's easy to get into the boat and start your journey. You lift the anchor, loosen the reigns and head across the waters. You leave the safety of the edge with eager exhilaration and head for the deep waters. But what happens when you're out in the water drifting and you can't see either the shore where you began or the dock of the destination? It's this waiting period that so often consumes and overwhelms us. 
But today, I want to remind you to get a fresh fire for finishing faith. Victory is waiting for you! You are closer to that lighthouse beaming through the fog telling you that you're on the right path. Keep going. You're almost there! 

Friend, God is not finished with you. Your best days are still ahead. You've got to shake off what didn't work out and get your passion back. There is a flame burning deep down inside. The scripture talks about fanning the flame, stirring up your gifts. It's not enough to finish, but to finish with your fire still burning.

The apostle Paul faced many situations that could have put his fire out. He was doing the right thing, sharing the good news and helping people when he was arrested and put in prison. It looked like he would never get to his destiny. The closer he got, the more obstacles he faced. He was alone in a dungeon on death row. It looked like God had forgotten about him. But Paul wasn't defeated, depressed, or feeling sorry for himself. Even though he was physically in chains, they couldn't stop what God wanted him to do. Since Paul couldn't go out and speak publicly, he began to write. He wrote book after book. He wrote a letter to the Ephesians, he wrote a letter to the Colossians, to the Romans, to the Philippians. He wrote over half of the New Testament, much of it from a prison cell. They thought they were shutting him up, but they were doing just the opposite; his voice was amplified. What they meant for harm, God used for good. 

I've found the battles get tougher as you get closer to your destiny. Family members may not celebrate you, challenges arise you weren't expecting, a health issue, the business slows down, or the loss of a loved one. It would be easy to think, "I was doing so good, I was getting so close. If I just wouldn't have had that bad break. I'm out in the middle of the water with no end in sight." Know that challenge is a sign that you're getting closer to your destiny. The same God that gave you grace to start is the same God that's going to help you to finish. He knows exactly where your path is leading. Nothing you're facing is a surprise to God. He knows every hill, every difficulty, every bad break. The good news is that His grace is sufficient. You will never face a hill where you don't have the strength to climb it.

You may be facing some challenges right now. Keep reminding yourself that God is the author and the finisher of your faith. He helped you to get started, but more importantly, He's going to help you finish. He didn't bring you this far to leave you. It says in Philippians 1:6, "He who began a good work in you will continue to perform it until it's complete." One translations says, "He will bring you to a flourishing finish." Not a defeated finish where you barely make it, but a flourishing finish. A finish more rewarding that you ever imagined.

When you hit that tough time, don't worry. God is there pushing you forward, taking you where you could not go on your own. You will overcome what you couldn't overcome by yourself. You will climb mountains that you thought were too steep, overcome obstacles that looked insurmountable. God's finishing grace will propel you further than you could ever imagine. Finish with grace to fulfill your destiny that God has placed in your life.

There was a small child who was brought up by his father. His father was a highly successful and extremely bright business man. He was about 50 years old with dark brown hair and deep brown eyes. He was a very neat man but he rarely smiled. He was strict, impatient, quick with anger and very passionate. These attributes all contributed to his great success in business life, but at the same time the same qualities led him become a not very pleasant father. He drove the newest Mercedes and had the fanciest suits. He was incredibly wealthy. As he traveled a lot he didn't spend a lot of time with his son. But this boy was compensated with expensive presents and private schooling. This was the way his father expressed his love for him. The son got used to getting everything he wished for.
When he turned 21 he was getting ready to graduate college. For many months he had admired a beautiful black sports car in a dealer's showroom and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. He went to see the car everyday for weeks. He took the car for a test drive, he smelled the leather seats, imagined buying it and taking it home for the first time. He took pictures of it and put them all out on his wall.

As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. He was full of excitement like a little child. He had absolutely no doubt of getting what he wished for. Finally after days of waiting impatiently, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. He sat him down on a designer brown leather chair and looked deep into his son's eyes and said: "I am very proud to have such a fine son and for the first time he said: "I love you". His son not even hearing the words waited impatiently for his present. After all, he was used to expensive presents but his father expressing his feelings were unknown for him. Finally, the father handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box. The son held his breath back while quickly opening the box. He had his dream car floating before his eyes. As he opened the box he found a book called "Put Your Dream to the Test". He was disappointed almost shocked. He threw the book on the floor. Angrily he raised his voice at his father and said, "With all your money you give me a book?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the book behind. He moved out of the house immediately and went on his own way.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business just like his father. But business was not all he took after his father. He was as strict and impatient with his own children as his father was with him. He had a beautiful home somewhere in the countryside.
One day the man realized his father was very old and thought perhaps he should go see him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. They hadn't even spoken a word since then. The father hadn't even met his grandchildren. Although the son decided to contact his father he kept putting it off. Many times he walked to the phone, took it up, sat down on the white leather sofa in his living room, looked at his wife for support and dialed holding his breath back and shaking all over. But before the phone could ring he hung up. This went on for weeks until one day he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to him. He needed to go home immediately and take care of things.

When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He went into his father's study where they last spoke and thought about the last words he heard from his father. He began to search his father's important papers and in one of his drawers he found the still new book, just as he had left it years ago. He sat down on the same chair he was sitting those years before and recollected his memories of the situation that had separated them. With tears rolling down his face, he read the title: Put your dreams to the test. Then he opened the book and began to turn the pages. After the third page he saw a hole in the book with a car key in it. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the black sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words…

"WITH LOVE TO MY PRECIOUS SON WHO MADE ME SO PROUD TODAY."

Many times we prejudge people we meet and things we experience in life because they are not packaged as we expect them. We make drastic choices based on misunderstandings or simple ignorance and let the emotions resulting from these guide us. My advice to you is to stop for a moment and think before you make overall conclusions of a person or a situation and most importantly learn to forgive yourself and others!

Back When I Saw Them

They will always be a band called Emblem3. I believe that one day, just one day, they will get back together and go on tour for their Emblems. Even if they have their own dreams, they would never let us down. Emblems believe in them and support them 100%. Even when one day the new song says, "Emblem3 ft. Drew Chadwick", to us it will be "The Original Emblem3". I was lucky enough to go to their last concert as a full band, though no one saw it coming. I thank God for helping me win those tickets to see my idols one last time. #ForeverE3

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France . Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.
